What is YOGA?
Yoga is the stilling of the constant fluctuations of the mind.' Pātañjalayogaśāstra 1.2
Yoga is an ancient Indian way of life, first documented over 5000 years ago. The aim of yoga is meditation. Whilst moving your body in various poses of asanas, your mind will become more focused and eventually be still leading you towards meditation, is stilling the constant fluctuations of the mind.
Ancient Yogi’s believed that to be in harmony with oneself and ones environment, the body mind and spirit have to be integrated. For these three to be integrated ones thoughts, actions and emotions must first be in balance.
The Yogis formulated a way to achieve and maintain this balance through yoga poses (asana), breathing (pranayama) and meditation. Today Yoga is practised by millions of individuals due to the wealth of physical, mental and emotional benefits it can offer.
Yoga poses are used to calm the mind, improve the mind-body connection, increase focus, improve circulation, digestion and respiration, improve co-ordination, regulate metabolism to aid weight loss, increase energy levels, increase happiness and wellbeing.
